Last month at MASCON in Chicago, our booth turned into a place where people slowed down and took in calming sights and beautiful scents.
With a bubbling table fountain, greenery, seating, and a scent diffuser, we invited visitors to step inside and spend time with the space created in collaboration with ForeRunners Network. Posters placed throughout the booth guided people through the history of bimaristans, advanced Islamic healing centers from our past, while a looping video played in the background, sharing Maristan’s work and vision.
Our favorite part was watching Muslims, especially health professionals, reclaim a lost legacy and realize that bimaristans were centuries ahead of their time and offered care many systems still struggle to provide today.
We also shared our goal of creating a modern-day bimaristan envisioned by Dr. Rania Awaad - a sustainable model bringing together clinical care, spiritual space, wellness, learning, and community.
