I was hoping for a little more from my first Birdo run, but this will have to do for now.
This category is an example of why I'm not too big on any%. When the only actual constraint is playing the game as quickly as possible, I find it a lot easier to get angry at the game. Must just be how my brain works, but having the extra tasks on my mind really does make a difference.
After you get Home Run and Big Play, Birdo has literally nothing to do until Bowser, so it's all about first-inning mercy rules with as many skipped replays as possible. Unfortunately the fastest batting strats to score 10 runs are far and away not the safest ones, meaning lots of tough calls and risky gambles that are quite likely to blow up in your face.
I spent several hours resetting in this category until I shook myself by the shoulders and said "Gen, you are finishing the first run that gets a 1IM Mario and 34 gem CCS unless you literally do not have Birdo's non-MVP goals done by Bowser. No buts. Put a fucking time on the board and beat it later." Listening to myself there was the right decision. There were plenty of unnecessary innings played and even some comical moments here and there, but this was a fair *enough* run to put up as my first submission. I beat my Yoshi Islanders time handily. I didn't play any extra games or restart any matches. It's fine. Demonstrably beatable, but fine.
If I return to this category I'll be looking into having Birdo as SS rather than 2B (seriously, HOW many Big Plays did Yoshi get this run? Absurd) and making other adjustments to the roster, positions, and lineup order. You have a wide variety of options in terms of how to approach this category- all you really need to do is have or recruit Birdo, play CCS, go to the shop, and (at whatever points along the way to doing those things that suit your fancy) win the other baseball matches.
For now, I have a few more times that I want to put on the board before giving Birdo another go.
