Severe storms in Maricopa, Arizona, caused extensive damage to the Gud Ark Animal Sanctuary and the Maricopa Pantry, leaving both properties struggling to recover. High winds, heavy rain, and hail destroyed structures, flooded the grounds, and overturned a bird enclosure, resulting in the drowning of seven rescue birds. The sanctuary's owner, Ellese Gudvangen, described how the weather damaged rabbit enclosures and aviaries while leaving staff with limited hands, supplies, and time to repair rebuilding needs during the hot summer.
Nearby at the Maricopa Pantry, severe winds knocked over a storage trailer, leaving its wheels pointing upward. Founder Jim Shoaf confirmed that no canned goods stored inside were lost and stated that staff would work to flip the trailer back over to continue serving the community. Despite the setbacks, the organization remains focused on its mission to feed local families and move forward after the disaster.
