On January 23, 2020, a man collapsed inside a North Carolina police station after he ate a fatal amount of coke. The suspect had come into contact with officers after being stopped for driving with a suspended license while police were conducting surveillance related to alleged drug distribution activity.
When officers activated their lights and sirens, the man refused to pull over. Investigators believe that during the pursuit, he swallowed narcotics from his vehicle that he was allegedly intending to sell.
When officers eventually made contact with him, he reportedly consumed more drugs in front of them. although the arresting officer later claimed he intervened to stop him. That contradiction became one of several disputed facts in the case.
