In this episode we show some quirks of the Jeep XJ front brakes and also how we machined the brake discs on the old 14.5" South Bend Lathe. The disc diameter was stretching the lathe right to its limits as i wanted to machine both sides without turning it round in the chuck.
The reason is that equal thickness all round is highly important, otherwise the brake pedal may start pumping when pressure is applied. Thats why those disc re-machining jigs have two cutters fed in at the same time.
When machining brake discs, always check for cracks and always maintain the minimum thickness as per factory spec.
Please bear in mind that working on brakes is safety critical, if you don't know what you doing, please consult an expert. This footage is for entertainment only.
