Review – This is clearly a love letter to N64 Rare platformers. Unfortunately, it is nowhere near the quality. I can’t fault the developers for their passion, but it is obvious that this game lacks funding and cannot deliver on a full scope game. It’s definitely more of a fan project that feels like it should be a free mod, rather than a pay for game.
It is incredibly simple and easy. The hardest part was at the start of the game where I didn’t realise there was a siwthc to open a trap door because it didn’t look like one at all. I thought the game would be tricky after that but it wasn’t at all.
The only barriers were game breaking bugs and a level that requires you to go back to other levels to collect some secrets.
The game is fun though. Where nothing is groundbreaking and controls are simple, the feeling of being in an old Rare game is definitely there and worth being in if only for a couple of hours at most.
The layout of the game is a bit strange where you have to select the levels via a book and have to scroll through the book from the first page every time. Then once you complete the game, you unlock bonus levels, which is like another game entirely. Then during the bonus level where it tells you to go back to the main levels to collect kiwi tokens, I found an entrance to the Super Kiwi 64 game, which is a large level where you play as the Kiwi from Kiwi 64 (which is a separate game entirely) and when you complete that level, you get end credits as if you completed another game.
So in total, you three lots of credits. I’m not sure if these were DLS extra’s but I doubt it because all 2 took under 2 hours.
I commend the devs for making this game, but it is barely a game. It wouldn’t even qualify as a N64 game. Just an N64 demo. Fun, but a fan project – not a retail game.
