Love Actually, a 2003 British rom-com, explores the complex messiness of love through nine (±2) intertwined love stories: love that bridges languages, cultures, and social classes; love that arises from the most unexpected situations; the paternal love between father and son; the comfort of companionate love; the innocence of first love; the temptation of illicit love; and the journey past lost love. (Don't try to count.)
Tonight's medley features three love themes, each depicting a different color of emotion. We begin with the loneliness of the Glasgow Love Theme, transition to the heartache of the Portuguese Love Theme, and celebrate with the triumph of the Prime Minister's Love Theme before ending with a love theme of a different sort. One could argue that this arrangement belonged in our last concert, but since it takes place at Christmastime, we can let it slide.
