Tonight, DPops pays tribute to the latter and their 1982 passion-infused rock odyssey "Africa." In the music video for "Af-rica," a library is inexplicably burned to the ground while an eerie man with poor sartorial taste searches for a book coincidentally entitled "Africa.” This song means so much more than perhaps a case of eminent domain gone wrong: it speaks to the wanderer in all of us, its harmonies dialoguing with the unquenchable yearning inherent to our souls; each musical sentence is a search. Listen to the drums propel the piece forward, the pulse of a continent as old
as civilization itself. Let the flutes and their tender, nimble musical cascades engulf you like a summer zephyr ripping across the sweeping Sahara. Submit yourself to the raw power of the brass as they completely overwhelm your senses like a passionate lover, blessing the mighty rains themselves with their clarion call. So close your eyes, let the melody wash over you, and, in the words of Toto, let it "cure what's deep inside;" after all, "there's nothing that a hundred men or more could ever do."
