ABOUT THE WORK

DPops is excited to open the 2023-2024 season with the biggest hit of the year: Greta Gerwig’s Barbie.

One day in the perfect matriarchal world of Barbieland, Barbie wakes up with bad breath, cellulite, and flat feet, triggering an existential crisis and sending her on a mission to the real world to find a cure to her imperfections. Unexpectedly, she is joined by her admirer Ken, who is determined to earn Barbie’s approval by all means. However, all goes wrong when Ken discovers patriarchy and brings it back to Barbieland. Upon finding out that her friends and colleagues have been indoctrinated by the new social order and—perhaps even more outrageously—that Ken has turned her Barbie Dream House into the Mojo Dojo Casa House, Barbie sets off to restore a Barbie-led society, realize what it means to be human, and learn what she was made for along the way,
