In this video, I'm back in Meriwether County, Georgia with Mrs. Linda McCardle at the cemetery I didn't even know I was looking for.
Decades ago, Linda located a small, forgotten family cemetery deep in the woods-one that held the graves of her own ancestors. But over time, the exact location was lost. What started as a memory became a mystery, and for years, the cemetery simply could not be found again.
In a sequence of events that neither of us could have planned, we stumbled onto something we weren't even sure we were looking for, the Fowler family cemetery revealed itself once again.
This wasn't just a rediscovery of a forgotten burial ground. It was a reunion-bringing Linda back to the resting place of her great-great grandparents after three decades.
Cemeteries like this exist all across the South, quietly disappearing as the land changes and memory fades. If they are not documented, they are lost.
