Today we’re exploring the old Rockola Primitive Baptist Church in Ridgeway, a forgotten ghost town in Harris County, Georgia. Founded in 1914, this historic African American church still stands as a quiet marker of the community that once thrived here.
I came here to document something incredibly rare—engraved fieldstone grave markers belonging to the Seldon family. Unlike earlier stones I’ve found from the 1850s and 1860s, these date to the 1930s, showing that even into the 20th century, families were still carving names and dates by hand into stone.
The churchyard holds more than just graves—it holds memory, identity, and survival. This place matters.
