46100 Royal Scot puts on a blistering performance up the famous Great Western Hatton Bank on the early morning of the 8th of September. Over the years we have seen a quite a few locos pass through Hatton Station but the majority of these are heading to Stratford Upon Avon so they're usually pathed on the outer slow loop line in preparation for a left turn at Hatton Junction. The last full run up the bank for us would of been 46233 Duchess of Sutherland back in 2017 at midnight and I always said that would take some beating. So at 9.20 am the sound of a Scot Class could be heard on a southerly wind hitting the back just outside of Warwick, I have trimmed down the video but still left in a good approach sound with added gradient captions. You can audibly hear the change of gradient as the locomotive storms into sight. I haven't heard Royal Scot sound like that since her attack on Shap in 2016 !
With the main highlight finished in a flash, I opted for some rare scenes of 46100 passing through Birmingham. The tour is seen gently leaving Snow Hill Station as it drops down hill towards the Jewellery Quarter and then is swiftly seen and heard echoing her way through the station with a Birmingham to Wolverhampton tram passing alongside. The train was heading to Bridgnorth on the Severn Valley Railway but we opted not to follow the tour due to there being a double header departing at Shrewsbury in the Afternoon, video to be published on Saturday. The return leg of Royal Scot was heavily curtailed on the SVR due to late running on the outward leg because of a lineside fire, so 46100 was replaced by 34027 for the Severn Valley leg due to time constraints and unfortunately this was tender first. Having waited around for 46100 for no reason we were now late and we attempted to get one final shot closer to home and with enough time to head over to Solihull we assumed we would be make it but a major industrial fire had erupted in Kidderminster and the whole town came to a standstill so we had to divert via Stourport on Severn and Bromsgrove, it was touch and go whether we would make it to Widney Manor and with the added unwanted inclusion of roadworks we pulled up to the station with less than sixty seconds to spare, there was no time to get equipment out, so out popped my trusty Samsung S20, it was a bit a shaky shot due to the mad rush, still we were just happy to of made it and I think the shot is just about acceptable.
