The first steam tour of 2022 has taken place and LMS Jubilee 45699 Galatea running as 45627 'Sierra Leone' was chosen to do to the honours of the Winter Cumbrian Mountain Express. The usual Winter Cumbrian Mountain Express tours start out of London but the first one's now start out of Manchester which requires the need for a diesel, all future WCME trains should return to the usual format of pure steam aka no diesel. With an overweight train for the Jubilee the diesel would need to help out little on the big climbs and especially on the late running southbound run to Shap with plenty of HST's approaching their rear end. Regardless of your opinion on the inclusion of the 'rear gunner' you cannot say that the steam locomotive upfront wasn't doing its part, as that famous 'Jubilee Roar' was more than evident !
