Chinese Premier Li Qiang inaugurated a Beijing-funded airport in Pakistan during a visit to the capital on October 14, 2024. Li is the first Chinese premier to visit Pakistan in 11 years. The meeting came ahead of a two-day gathering of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) in Islamabad. The SCO’s 23rd meeting comprises nine full-fledged members, including China, India, Iran and Russia. Pakistani authorities shut down the capital ahead of the summit, which has been overshadowed by recent militant attacks and political unrest.
