Those that look at modern video games and proclaim that they're always released in a buggy, broken state and that all the games they played in their youth were prefect masterpieces would do well to remove the rose-tinted glasses of nostalgia. Older games were very capable of being buggy messes and some of them never got patches to fix their issues.
Even games from big, respectable companies like Sierra were not immune to this. Case in point, this is the second game in the series where I've encountered this kind of issue. With the only other entry I've played being a fan remake, this puts me two for two on official Quest for Glory games having bugs that crash the game to desktop, with this one being one that could have bricked my playthrough if I didn't have older saves to fall back on.
Save early, save often and save in different slots, folks.
