Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver Remastered is an action-adventure video game developed and published by Aspyr in 2024, revitalizing the 1999 classic originally developed by Crystal Dynamics and published by Eidos Interactive. Set in the fictional land of Nosgoth, the game follows the protagonist, Raziel, who is executed by his master, Kain, only to be resurrected many years later on a quest to seek revenge against his murderer and former brethren. Beyond its engaging gameplay, the experience is deeply enriched by its expansive lore and the exploration of profound philosophical questions.
NoirStation Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ - I absolutely love this game's story, rich atmosphere, and unmatched musical score, all of which give it an incredible amount of soul and uniqueness. However, from a gameplay perspective, a few flaws prevent me from giving it a full five stars. The environments often look so similar that it is very easy to get lost, and in my opinion, the game's pacing feels a bit slow. I also encountered some bugs and performance drops whenever the game loads a new section. That said, while I think the original 1999 release maintains a much darker and grittier atmosphere, this remaster brings much-needed quality of life improvements, such as a map, a compass, and refined controls, that greatly enhance the overall gameplay, alongside the obvious graphical upgrades.
