Lecture 27: Thermodynamic Potentials, Legendre Transform, and Maxwells Relations  @bahgalabiitdelhi7797

In this lecture, we introduce various thermodynamic potentials such as internal energy, enthalpy, Helmholtz free energy, and the Gibbs free energy. We derive the various potentials starting with the internal energy and changing the thermodynamic variables using the Legendre transform. Thereafter, we introduce the Maxwell's relations. As an example application of the Maxwell's relations, we show that internal energy 'of an ideal gas is a function of temperature only. (c) Supreet Singh Bahga, IIT Delhi
