In April 1987, ITN travelled to the Palestinian refugee camp of Bourj el-Barajneh in the suburbs of Beirut in Lebanon to report on the ongoing five-month siege of the camp. A sub-conflict of the Lebanese Civil War (1975-1990), the 'War of the Camps' saw Syrian-backed Palestinians from the predominantly Sunni camps fighting the Lebanese Amal militia and Shi’ite Muslim groups for control of West Beirut, where the camps provided refuge for the Palestine Liberation Organisation (PLO). Featured here is an extended report on the ongoing siege of Bourj el-Barajneh, and the so-called 'passage of death' through which besieged Palestinians had to travel for food and medical supplies.
