This past year has easily been one of the best, and simultaneously one of the worst, that I've ever experienced in my life. The lows were low, the highs were high, and at the end of it all, the only option I've ever had was to keep moving forward. This song is a dedication to everything good and bad that I've faced this year, and a small testament to where I am today and where I hope to be tomorrow.
This song, though normally in chiptune form, has always invoked a very melancholy feeling for me. Both one of sadness and silver linings; bittersweet. The title that Anamanaguchi decided on is most fitting, as I feel it a song of longing and moving on. Even more aptly that in the game, it's the music for the level where Scott faces Nega Scott- an entity that embodies the concept of everything bad about Scott's past, and defeating him being Scott's acceptance of his past misdeeds and willingness to move forward as a better person.
I've chosen to arrange this song as my last upload for the year as it really sums up everything this year has had in store. For every inconvenience, every hardship, and every tragedy I've experienced this year, my ability to push forward has always yielded a silver lining somewhere in the near future.
And most importantly of all, I have to dedicate this piece to my wonderful girlfriend, Robyn. She has been a constant source of love, support, and inspiration. She's been my shoulder to cry on, my reason for getting up in the morning, and the source of my deepest happiness. I could not have survived this year without her by my side, and would not be in the place I am today without her. 4 years strong and counting!
I'm not normally one to say what it is my viewer's should feel or take away from listening to my work, but with this piece, I sincerely hope it brings some form of comfort or serenity to anyone who's had it rough this past year, or for whom this time of year brings sadness and bad memories instead of joy. Tomorrow always promises the chance of a better life, a better outcome.. a promise of happiness.
