Xbox is going through a major restructuring and IMO crash. PlayStation stops physical copies in a desperate hope to regain as much profit margins as they can. These are the two players of the western gaming companies, and they are both struggling so much that they had to take emergency measures that they wouldn't normally take if they are in a comfortable position. Do you think PlayStation and Xbox would do all this if they are making enough money? I don't think so.

And then, you look at Nintendo and see how well they're doing right now, even if their products are not the most critically acclaimed. Switch 2 isn't the most exciting console launches, but it does the job pretty well as being a major hardware upgrade over Switch 1 and sells surprisingly well in the current market. Their recent games are not the best in the series, but they are good enough for people to have fun with them and have a good time with them.

And then, you look at the rest of the Japanese industry. Capcom, SEGA, ATLUS, Cygames, even Square Enix, they're all doing relatively well releasing games that are of excellent quality consistently. They don't have to be the best in the series, but they are good enough for people to play and have fun with. Unfortunately for Bandai Namco and Koei Tecmo, you're not doing very well.

Then, we have Chinese companies like Hoyo, NetEase, and Kuro, and South Korean companies like Shift Up and Nexon. They profit quite a lot from not just appealing to a wider market with a more accessible mobile platform, but also with simple and easier to get into games that are fun to play. Plenty of my viewers are PS1 N64 veterans, and even they started switching to mobile gaming.

I'm not just praising the eastern gaming industry just because their art style is anime. In fact, I have never seriously played a gacha game made by the eastern gaming companies beyond testing them for benchmarks. I'm saying this simply as someone who observes the current gaming market trend, and the eastern gaming market whether it be Japan, Korean, or China, they are able to maintain a steady and consistent revenue with healthy profit margins by simply having better and more enticing products.

I think the western gaming industry can learn a thing or two from the east. The question is, can they afford to learn from them?
