I just want to say this to the gaming industry as a whole. We've been progressing forward way too soon, and we've hit a point in which a lot of stuff gets way more expensive for the average consumers while their buying power is not strong enough. Considering that there are layoffs happening every couple of days in the western gaming industry, I suspect that there will be a major collapse for them.
The same thing cannot be said to the eastern gaming industry. They make well-received or even critically acclaimed single-player titles consistently, providing loyal fanbases with a steady income that doesn't require milking the players to oblivion. When they do want to milk the players, they aim for the platform that everyone already has and fill their games with attractive, good looking, and interesting characters that absolutely gain the attention of many gamers around the world. Also, they're on a platform that everyone has, which means they don't have to spend too much money and time on maximizing graphical fidelity while sacrificing framerates.
It is bizarre that the western gaming industry chose to take elements from how mobile gaming milks their consumers instead of actually participating and competing in the mobile gaming market itself. That's what I'm seeing in the western gaming industry. The eastern gaming industry is thriving, competing, and are willing to take actual risks. The western gaming industry is in a desperate survival mode just like many of its consumers.
In the current gaming landscape when physical gaming will not be a thing anymore, when the hardware market is destroyed by AI manufacturers, when the consumer's buying power could barely afford food and rent, I think we, as gamers, shouldn't spend too much of our focus on seeing the bleak future ahead and focus on actually surviving in this economy.
I'll tell you what I do in this situation. I will revisit the past to play the non-crappy games that don't suck ass. That's what a lot of remakes, reboots, and remasters want to do. It's like the universe keeps pointing back to the past and be like "Hey, go there instead of here." And even if I do want to catch up with anything recent in gaming, I played enough games in my lifetime to know how they work. Watching them through YouTube doesn't cost anything for me, and I'd rather spend it on my other basic needs.
