This news right here is the biggest threat for the all-digital future: Losing your digital goods. Microsoft removes this guy's account after he tries to get his account back from a hacker. His account has all sorts of stuff including games and his son's baby pictures. It's astonishing that not only Microsoft not restore his account, but that someone actually uses One Drive.
For real, though. Microsoft restored his account. That's a happy ending for him because he has enough clout to be able to talk about it. No viral, no justice, and because these two are not viral, there's no justice for them. But seriously why would anyone use OneDrive? Their local backup capabilities are garbage. At least Google Drive lets you mirror the files which lets you to save the files locally and in the cloud. OneDrive just permanently puts all your files in the cloud.
Regardless, this is the all-digital future that Microsoft and Sony want for all of us. At this point, if you really want to own digital goods, it is straight up mandatory for everybody to learn how to create their own file server, and I'm actually considering doing that with my HP T620. That mini-PC is terrible at modern-day browser-based work, but as a low-power file server, it'll be fantastic.
