Recently there has been a growing trend that deems time spent on gaming as inherintly a "waste of time". While there are many rational reasons behind why spending excessive time on gaming can lead to suffering in the end, I want to offer an alternative perspective that demonstrates that there can be invaluable benefits to competitive gaming as well, including strong carryover and confidence towards achieving other things in life, as long as you discover the correct insights during gaming.

TIMESTAMPS:
00:00 I started playing League 12 years ago
1:32 My first time playing ranked in Season 2
2:36 I started making videos about League
3:20 Season 3 (the most memorable season)
4:45 Season 4
5:05 Season 5
5:24 Season 6 (starting to improve & a mindset shift)
7:15 Season 7 (going for Diamond, confidence towards improving)
8:40 Season 8 (Falling out of a strong mindset)
9:17 Discovering my breaking point
10:22 Reflecting on how my mindset should have been different
11:45 I already had that mindset, but it wasn't engrained enough
12:13 Season 9 (forfun duos with friend)
12:22 Season 10 (going for Diamond again, mindset still wasn't perfect)
13:04 I reflected on this period in my old video
13:24 Climbing is a number game based on your skill/winrate, so don't tilt
14:05 League is not like other, cumulative skills
14:36 Season 11/12/13 (mostly forfun duos again)
14:51 I enjoyed the game but it made the rest of my day more difficult
15:20 Retiring from League (but not before one last final climb)
15:45 Wasn't satisfied with hitting diamond too easily on main acc (S2023 S1)
16:00 Climbing on my smurf account (S2023 S2)
17:03 Arriving in Japan (and shop review)
17:57 I had always wanted to try online gaming in Japan
18:10 I learned Japanese partly because I wanted to experience the Japanese internet
19:07 I made an account in the jp server in 2019
19:30 I played with premade Japanese players in voice in 2019
19:50 If I wanted, I could play League in Japan now
20:00 I livestreamed the Japanese League server, but stopped after 4 games
20:30 Is it worth playing League in Japan? (Yes, for me)
21:46 NordVPN Sponsor Segment
23:20 Starting my climb to Diamond in Japan
23:33 Getting double inted by a streamer and a troll
24:12 High winrate climb
24:26 I didn't know Riot removed tier skipping
24:55 Already had interesting experiences in the Japanese server
25:11 Hitting Emerald, and my first lose streak
25:37 Hitting Diamond
26:23 Going for Master!
26:58 I enjoyed playing with the same players
27:22 I still had negative experiences too
27:31 1 game away from Master! (and a 2 week break)
28:07 One of the worst losestreaks I've had
28:41 How toxic is the Japanese server?
29:28 Climbing back from the losestreak
30:05 I was against a RANK 5 (former RANK 1?) JP player
31:08 HITTING MASTER!
31:22 Decay games & The Vanguard Incident
32:45 JP server reaction to an earthquake
32:59 Interesting Japanese usernames
33:07 Was spending ~5000 hours on League of Legends worth it?
33:39 You can easily spend thousands of hours on games "unproductively"
33:56 Instant gratification from video games isn't usually fulfilling in the long-term
34:14 Why do I not regret playing League despite wanting to use my time impactfully?
34:28 Why I'm making this video
35:00 Learning what it means to do everything in your power to improve
35:25 Climbing in League isn't easy, it takes more than just lots of hours
36:21 Reaching difficult goals after working towards them is going to give you invaluable confidence
36:35 Even if I spent those hours on learning something else, I might not have been better off
36:49 League was a hobby of so many of my friends when I was younger
37:08 The negative experiences in League made me so much stronger
37:42 I feel genuine fulfillment over reaching my goals in League
37:55 Even the bad periods were lessons learned that I can apply in other areas of life
38:18 What even is "regret"?
39:00 Will I keep playing League?
39:39 Sometimes the things we value must be sacrificed for a greater purpose
40:10 Dangers of not allowing you to enjoy something you do anyway
41:00 If you're going to do something anyway, do it full intent, instead of half-heartedly
41:27 After fully accepting something, you can enjoy it to the extent that you ironically don't need to engage in it that often
41:44 Conclusion
42:10 Outro

If you want to know about my training history/development, check these two videos:
1. youtu.be/MX7e1joSUS8
2. youtu.be/I8BvkoCs0MI
PREFACE:
The main reason I made this video is to compare my progress either a year or few from now.
As I started focusing on hypertrophy/bodybuilding training a few months ago, I actually normally wouldn't test my 1 rep maxes on these lifts as they can hinder the consistency of tonnage accumulation. However, I feel that this transition towards hypertrophy will mark a significant split in my lifting journey, so, as an ode to all the effort I put in over the past years, I want to conclude it by showcasing my current lifts and physique.
Moreover, I actually believe that I might get stronger purely by focusing on hypertrophy, possibly even stronger than if I kept on training with the same mindset I had before, which is something I would like to find out.
COMMENTARY ON THE LIFTS:
- Squat: 140kg ATG, raw (aka no belt or other equipment). I actually was extremely close to hitting the same lift already in spring, it was closer than the failed 140 ATG attempt in this video, but alas I failed and I was unable to repeat it for the longest time. Though I believe there were other moments throughout the year where I was definitely capable of hitting it earlier than now.
- Bench Press, 110kg raw: I've made great progress on bench already just through my hypertrophy training, where I've almost exclusively used only 90kg for each set with varying reps, so hitting 110 was a pleasant surprise, as it was a 7.5kg increase from the last time I maxed out.
The bar was quite slanted on the final rep, I even hit the bar against the J hook right away, either because my starting position was a bit off (hadn't benched at my home gym for a while), or because there is some kind of an imbalance that only shows up on such heavy weight.
Also, my butt didn't actually come off the bench, it usually looks very different when that happens. My glutes are just rather developed and they activated I suppose.
- Deadlift: The clip is from October, so its over 2 months old at the time of uploading. I stopped deadlifting at around the same time as an experiment to see if I can benefit from substituting it from a hypertrophy perspective. I feel like I've regardless gotten stronger on the deadlift based on a few surprising effortless PR sets I did after the first squat PR segment and an entire hip hinge/lower session after the squat. I couldn't get a newer clip though as I'm not recovered yet and I can't wait much longer with this video.
- Physique:
This was after a few months of hypertrophy focused training, and some muscle groups, especially biceps, have already made noticeable progress.
I'd say that my current fat% is "mid-bulk", meaning that if I did another proper bulk, there wouldn't be much room left before I'd have to start a cutting phase, which I might actually do for the first time in my life next year, though I'd also really like to see what I can do if I focused on hypertrophy with sufficient calories for an entire year as well.
I'm very happy and satisfied with my current physique as well as lifts, but its fun to see where I can still go from here, and I feel like I have so many gains still left on the table due to never having done proper long-term hypertrophy programming like I'm doing now. I'm glad because I'll most likely do some form of lifting or bodybuilding for the rest of my life.

PREVIOUS italki episode: youtu.be/zRTgpy9UDlQ
Unedited long version: youtu.be/d1bfKG7QCGU
In a few months I'm going to be reaching 5 years of learning Japanese and since getting started, I've gotten around 3600 hours of Japanese exposure (~1700 hours of Anki, ~1700 hours of immersion, ~200 hours of other study sources), meaning that I've been exposed to Japanese an average of 2 hours per day since getting started.
However, I've had very little output (aka speaking or writing) practice during the entire 5 years (less than 100 hours in total). In this video I'd like to demonstrate what my Japanese output became like after nearly 5 years of ~2 hours a day input based learning and very little output practice. From here on I'm going to be slowly doing output practice on hopefully a daily basis for years to come, and I'm looking forward to seeing how much my Japanese will improve.
You can find more details about my Japanese learning journey thus far through my yearly update series: youtube.com/watch?v=bpfCWogjnwc&list=PLYLTtm-WITnkJ7QM-Tmrc3WyyBxQI1Kef
The 5 year update is soon to come!

After learning Japanese for over 4 years without ever reading any books and only a very limited amount of manga, in this video I finally go ahead and buy some proper, physical Japanese reading material, as well as a game!
I also explore the Japanese online shopping experience on well known stores, as well as in second hand marketplaces via a Japanese shopping proxy known as buyee, who also sponsored this video by giving me a budget for shopping via their service!

The audio at 22:44 got suddenly changed due to using YouTube's feature to replace copyrighted music. The entire video got demonetized due to the background music near the end and YouTube has a feature that lets you replace the audio music in case that happens, but it didn't give me a preview and turns out it completely replaced the entire audio after 22:44, really changing the outro. It was already too late to reupload the video (had multiple donations and 100+ comments), but looking back, the new ending ending kind of fits as well haha.

In this episode, I'll start renovating an abandoned store built during the Soviet era in Estonia. Most stuff still left inside.
The store was built in something like 1989, and it was abandoned in something like 2006. In 2015 there was an attempt to renovate it, which is why the counters and some of the products are gone, but still a lot of stuff remains.
This is just the first episode in the series, and there still are many interesting things I still didn't show in this episode. However, I'm not sure if this series will continue yet, so please let me know if you're interested in seeing this series continue, and you can also consider supporting the channel on Patreon, so I could actually afford to continue with the project. Thanks!
