정부, 네팔 연락두절 국민 9명 수색 총력… 헬기•드론•육상수색 추진

South Korea has yet to locate its nine nationals out of contact in Nepal as its planned operations face obstacles but now helicopter and ground missions are underway.
The foreign ministers of Seoul and Kathmandu held their second round of phone calls amid these developments.

Helicopters and ground crews in Nepal on Monday, widened the search for nine Koreans still out of contact following last week's flooding.
According to the Foreign Ministry, a helicopter secured by the government's rapid-response team took off at around 2PM local time, searching around the weir dam, the nearby town of Dunche, and a powerhouse.
On the ground, nine National Fire Agency personnel left for Ramche village on Monday morning, around one to two kilometres from the site in northern Rasuwa district, where two Korean companies were working on a hydroelectric power project.
Six of those still out of contact are from Doosan Enerbility, and three are from Korea South-East Power.
An initial government rapid-response team arrived in Kathmandu on Thursday night, with a second team dispatched to Nepal over the weekend.
The two companies are also pursuing separate search operations.
Earlier at 11:05AM., on Monday, a helicopter secured by Doosan Enerbility began an aerial search from the upper dam.
According to the company, the area was prioritised following requests from families of those still out of contact, as well as accounts suggesting some workers may have been near the upper dam when the flooding struck.
The helicopter then moved downstream towards the workers' camp, covering areas that had been difficult to access since the disaster.
A site manager who survived the flooding remains in Nepal to help with the search for his colleagues.

“I feel nothing but grief and sorrow. Nothing else is on my mind. I simply want to provide as much support as I can, based on what I know, in whatever way will help the search.”

Korea South-East Power is also preparing to deploy a drone, with its team moving by road towards the disaster site.
Meanwhile, Foreign Minister Cho Hyun held his second phone call since the disaster with his Nepali counterpart Shisir Khanal Monday afternoon.
Cho thanked Nepal for rescuing ten other Koreans stranded following the flooding, while asking its military to concentrate searches around the points where the nine are believed to have lost contact.
Khanal briefed Cho on the operation, including searches around tunnel structures.
Nepal has also requested additional search-and-rescue personnel and specialised equipment from South Korea.
Seoul says it is reviewing support based on those requests, with the two sides agreeing to maintain close coordination on rescue and recovery efforts.
