I'm just playing along to "Me And God" by Josh Turner, in case you'd like to download the backing track from YouTube. I used a GREAT thing called "Genyoutube" (search for it online), which is free to convert the video to an MP3 and download it.
I am a bit rusty, as I don't play every day. I learned a lot of this stuff from Lloyd Green, my favorite pedal steel guitar artist. This is the E9th tuning. I am using 3 floor pedals and 4 knee levers (which is the standard Nashville setup). I raise my 1st string a whole tone.
That quick cool up-run that I do (that I learned from Lloyd) a few times in the video (which you can't miss) is simple to do. I just pick strings 2 and 4, alternating my thumb and middle finger, while steadily sliding up 5 frets. No knees or pedals. Nothing's hard once you understand how to do it. It's all technique.
I'm not using any effects in the song. My amp is an old solid state, Peavey Session 400, with a 15" JBL speaker. I just replaced my stock single coil E9th pickup, with a new Bill Lawrence 710 pickup. I am happy with it! You can see the new pickup in the video, and I also put new strings on my pedal steel. The 6th string is not low, it just looks that way in the video.
