The first five chapters of the book of Joshua are about Israel entering the land. Chapters six through twelve are about Israel receiving the land. Some refer to that as their conquering the land, but the book of Joshua and Israel’s entire history is about their receiving the land. They don’t conquer anything without God having given it to them first.
I think the most important thing we can keep in mind is what Paul said, “For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.” (Ephesians 6:12) We have to keep in mind that the goal of demons is your destruction, and because of that, Paul tells the believers to take up the whole armor of God.
The story of Jericho and the rest of Canaan is a heavy-duty spiritual war. There is physical battle for sure, but that’s only the manifestation of the spiritual war that’s going on.
John said, “He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.” (1 John 4:4)
