For 1,500 years, Passover was the most important event in Jewish life, and Jesus celebrated it every year. This Passover will be far different. Everything changes this year. Jesus will declare the New Covenant, and a new era is here.
At the first Passover, a sacrificial substitute of some kind had to die for people to live, and God prescribed that only a lamb would be acceptable. At this final Passover after the first Lord’s Supper, an entirely different kind of sacrificial substitute had to die for people to live a different kind of life eternally, and God prescribed that only the perfect Lamb of God would be acceptable. Passover transitions to the Lord’s Supper, symbolizing that a new kind of life has been given.
