A holy God does not grant open access to just anyone, and Leviticus 8 makes that reality impossible to ignore. Before Aaron and his sons could serve as priests on behalf of the people, they had to be washed, clothed, and consecrated. Every detail pointed forward to something greater. Jesus is the fulfillment of everything the Old Testament priesthood represented. He is the great High Priest who passed through the heavens, sympathizes with our weaknesses, and yet never sinned. Because of Him, imperfect people can approach a perfect God. Access to God is not something we earn. It is something Jesus secured on our behalf.
