After investigating a slightly "spongy feeling" in the steering, we found a worn ball joint at the end of the track rod (panhard rod). Unfortunately this means a new track rod because the joint cannot be replaced, at least there a no service kits to be found in Europe.
After several attempts to break the bolt on the axle end loose, we needed to come up with a plan as it appears that the bolt is rusted into the bushing, also the nut at the back is almost not accessible, so cutting it off was not an option
First idea was using the most important tool for a Jeep XJ owner - the plasma cutter... but after thinking again we had another idea which produces less mess, apparently the jig worked as intended and we got the thing out in one piece.
This is an RHD Jeep, on LHD models everything is mirrored and the bolt access appears to be a bit easier but overall it's the same poor design.
