Firehose Reel are a Dublin group specialising in American old time and blues music. The band also write their own compositions. The five-piece performs their version of ‘Jean Harlow’ by Delta Blues musician Lead Belly. The song is a tribute to the 1930s actress who died at the age of 26.

Firehose Reel features Charlotte Bradley on lead vocals and fiddle and mandolin player Brendan Gleeson. Both musicians subsequently became better known as actors.

This episode of ‘The Music Show’ was broadcast on 2 March 1984.

‘The Music Show’ was a twelve-part series that featured classical, traditional and pop music played by Irish musicians. The first episode was broadcast on 14 October 1983. A second 12-part series began on 20 January 1984. The Musical Director was Frank McNamara and the programme was produced and directed by Niall Mathews.
