Gotta keep this tight as can be. Otherwise James Brown is gonna fine me from his grave.

One of the foundational funk grooves with a major nod to the Soul/Jazz Boogaloo feel. Notice how there is a cymbal crash on beat 1 of every other measure in the verses. This kind of emphasis on the downbeat would become somewhat of a trademark in many of Brown’s songs.

Drums:

1968 Ludwig Downbeat
14x20, 8x12, 14x14

1968 Ludwig Acrolite 5x14

Cymbals:

18” A Zildjian Crash 50’s
14” A Zildjian Hi Hats 50’s
20” A Zildjian Ride 50’s
