Karen Roberts reads the main stories from Sunday, 30th September, 2001. Obviously this is still in the very raw aftermath of 9/11, and Sunday Express journalist Yvonne Ridley was being held by the Taliban, while in other news Israel has killed a load of Palestinians and some sort of compensation scheme was being discussed for victims of CJD.
The good news for Ridley was that she was released unharmed after 11 days in captivity. She later converted to Islam and entered the world of politics, first with the Respect party and most recently standing as an independent, though apparently she's followed George Galloway to the Workers Party of Britain for next month's Scottish elections. Her Wikipedia entry is a bit of a rollercoaster.
