Every aircraft owner knows the 2,000-hour overhaul is inevitable. For Mike Victor Uniform, with nearly 10,000 hours on the airframe, that day has arrived. But with parts for the original engine becoming scarce, I’m faced with a critical choice: a final overhaul or a major engine upgrade?
In this video, I break down the four realistic options for my Cessna's future:
The $50k Overhaul: A 12–16 week wait for a 145 HP rebuild that might be the last one possible.
The High-Performance STC: A 195 HP IO-370 upgrade with a constant speed prop (over $120k USD).
The "Stroked" Modification: Bringing the engine to 175 HP via a major alteration—but is the paperwork ready for Canada?
The Firewall Forward Swap: A Lycoming O-360 (180 HP) package from AirPlains that could get us back in the air in record time.
I also address why selling the plane for a Cessna 182 isn't the easy fix it seems, and why investing in this airframe—with its modern avionics and 100-year potential—is the most strategic move for Glen's Hangar.
