The 1988 carbon dating of the Shroud of Turin produced a widely cited result of 1260 to 1390 with 95% confidence, but the raw data behind that figure was not released until a 2017 Freedom of Information Act request, 29 years later, and when statisticians finally examined it they found the labs had discarded outlying samples before arriving at their published conclusion.
