The book's central argument is not that some people in history were very tall. It is that a consistent global pattern of giants with six fingers and six toes appears across every indigenous tradition on Earth, from Aboriginal Australians repainting a thirty-foot six-fingered giant in Arnhem Land, to the giant of Gath in the Bible, to Gilgamesh in Mesopotamia, to the most recently unearthed ancient settlements which Istanbul University archaeologists are describing as yielding humanoids with strange numbers of fingers, never five. Jim's point is that dismissing this requires dismissing the oral traditions of virtually every indigenous culture that exists, and that the academic sources doing the most interesting work on this, at Chaco Canyon, Teotihuacan, Palenque, and the 9,000-year-old shaman site in Jerusalem, are reaching the same conclusion: in the ancient world, extra digits were not a medical condition to be treated. They were a mark of the divine.
His deeper argument is that giants do not fit within natural evolution, and that this is the point: the oldest creation traditions across the planet, Viracocha in Peru, the Anunnaki in Mesopotamia, and their equivalents everywhere else, describe giants as the products of engineering gods, terraforming wisdom-bringers, androgynous genetic architects who created them and then, in most traditions, destroyed them in a flood. Watson and Crick themselves, Jim notes, observed that Homo sapiens appear to have been genetically engineered. Where the evidence takes you, he says, is where he goes.
Greg brings the AI dimension. He has boardrooms of AI agents, has used the technology to place Jim alongside Gilgamesh in ancient Mesopotamia, and is developing augmented reality tools that would let people hold their phone up and see a giant standing next to them to scale. His own encounter with polydactyly, the man who said he used to have six fingers on both hands and six toes on both feet, removed at birth, along with his brother, who identified Sirius as the constellation that resonated with him, is the kind of moment Greg says crystallised what the book is actually pointing at.
