Brad Olsen, author of a book on Antarctica's most mysterious features, joins Matt Barone to walk through what has actually been documented beneath the ice, and what remains genuinely speculative.

Sonar scanning has confirmed over 100 subglacial lakes beneath East Antarctica's polar plateau, the largest being Lake Vostok, roughly the size of Lake Ontario and kept from freezing by geothermal heat from Antarctica's 14 known volcanoes and 93 heat vents. Scientists have found bacteria in Lake Vostok linked to a fish species that remains unidentified. Antarctica was also once ice-free, home to unique dinosaur species and fern fossils indicating a tropical climate, before pole shift events millions of years ago moved the continent to its current position.

The more speculative material covers radar scans showing what appear to be planned road grids and a black pyramid beneath the ice, alongside four naturally pyramidal rock formations, called nunataks, that Brad has identified as potentially artificial. He also discusses WWII-era German documents and navigational charts referencing a location called Agartha, directing U-boats through under-ice cave systems toward the South Pole, and a large hole in the ice near the pole that Brad says is blacked out on Google Earth, tied to whistleblower testimony from a pilot who claims he was ordered off course and warned never to discuss what he saw.

The conversation closes on Admiral Byrd's disputed 1947 diary, describing an encounter with unidentified craft, a telepathic warning against nuclear weapons use, and three hours of missing flight time that Byrd reportedly never explained, returning ashen-faced and refusing to file a flight log.
