In December 1980, US Air Force Sergeant Jim Penniston was dispatched from RAF Bentwaters into Rendlesham Forest after radar lost contact with a bogey over the base. He was authorised to deploy under the Status of Forces agreement, had his crash kit with him, and fully expected to find a downed aircraft. What he found instead has remained one of the most significant and most studied close encounter cases in the history of the UAP phenomenon.
Jim walks Matt Barone through the full sequence: the laboured movement through the forest perimeter, like walking chest-deep in water, which dissipated as the craft came into view. The dome of lights that narrowed down to a black triangular silhouette, smooth-skinned, void of intakes, exhaust, rivets, or any crew compartment.
