Peter Helland attempts to show that the American Experiment beginning in 1776 aimed at destroying Kings and anybody who claimed they had a divine right to rule. Americans argued that the people should choose the King (i.e. the government they want) and thus they are the ones in charge. This idea eventually leads to the overthrow of all authority and subordination. What it means for the family is that the father can not claim that God gave him authority to command his household in Christ's name. He can get away with it only until his wife objects and takes him to court if necessary to stop his "tyrannical" rule. At best the husband and wife must be in mutual submission with nobody in charge but actually ending with the women getting the upper hand in most cases.
To prove that the Father has no real authority in American democracy to rule his own home Peter reads from the books of Ezra and Nehemiah where both prophets get extremely angry at the Israelite fathers for allowing their daughters and sons to marry "strange wives and husbands." Just like God commanded them to put away their strange gods he commands the husbands to put away their strange wives and the children born to them. The idea is the children will imitate their ungodly mothers and simply become pagans. The sons and daughters have been marrying the wrong person in America because the fathers do not insist on overseeing their children"s marriages. This has resulted in a 50% divorce rate and families falling apart.
The background screen contains a picture of Rosie the Riveter, the cultural icon from World War II that was used to socially engineer the women to come out of their homes and work in the factories. This greatly helped create the new liberated woman of the post war era. Also in the background is a photo from the sitcom in the 50's called "The Honeymooners." This sitcom helped pave the way in portraying husbands as incompetent and the wives as superior in competence.
