Metabolic Mind | Is Ice Cream Healthy? Or has nutritional epidemiology misled us again? @metabolicmind | Uploaded April 2023 | Updated October 2024, 3 hours ago.
Scientists found eating ice cream is associated with lower heart disease risk. Exciting news, right? Except that it likely isn’t true. Many in the nutrition space are trying to debunk these findings, or at least explain why they can’t be true. But how is this any different from the nutritional epidemiology evidence suggesting low carb, red meat, or saturated fat are associated with health concerns? And why aren’t the same nutrition scientists questioning a similar study from Tufts suggesting too much-processed meat and too few whole grains lead to type 2 diabetes? It all comes down to bias. And it’s crucial that we all learn how to recognize it.
