Metabolic Mind | Mitochondria & Inflammation in Serious Mental Illness - Ana Andreazza, PhD @metabolicmind | Uploaded November 2022 | Updated October 2024, 3 hours ago.
Symptoms of mental illness may be intricately tied to the health of mitochondria and the degree of brain inflammation. Understanding mitochondrial health and dysfunction can help us better understand, diagnose and treat serious mental illness.

Ana Andreazza, PhD, is a Professor in the Departments of Pharmacology and Toxicology and Psychiatry at the University of Toronto. She is a leading expert in mitochondria and their impact on mental health. In this talk, she describes the role mitochondria play and their impact on redox modification on inflammation and illness progression in major psychiatric disorders.
