In a recent blog post, the Canadian Climate Institute claims that decarbonization is a patriotic act, and that Canada must "leapfrog the United States to ensure that our economy is positioned to prosper." Decarbonization refers to phasing out fossil fuels and electrifying things like home heating with heat pumps instead of natural gas heating. It should be noted that the Canadian Climate Institute is funded by government for about $7 million of their $9 million revenues. The author of the article claims that he bought a Canadian flag for the firs time, because of Donald Trump. He writes: "I’ve never bought a Canadian flag before. But I surprised myself when the daily Trump “51st state” insults ignited a desire in me to fly our country’s colours. " So, Trump Derangement Syndrome made him buy it. By trying to sell 'decarbonization' to Canadians as an act of patriotism, this is an emotional appeal that avoids the practical and economic issues of dismantling perfectly good infrastructure, to implement on a mass scale, something for which Canada does not have sufficient power generation capacity, and for which we have not been provided with a cost-benefit analysis. While Prime Minister Carney and Minister Hodgson keep saying that Canada has what the world wants, the problem is that we can't get our energy, critical minerals and other resources to the world, because our fundamental infrastructure needs upgrading first. Canada has an excellent opportunity to serve global markets due to the conflict and restrictions on shipping oil and LNG out of the Strait of Hormuz, but we have to focus on building the infrastructure to get it there.
