In this video conversation with Fiona Treacy, managing director for industrial automation at Analog Devices, at the IoT Tech Expo in London, U.K,, we look at software defined architectures and software defined automation as applied to industrial environments.
In her talk at the conference, Fiona Treacy highlighted the path toward smarter, self‑optimizing industrial ecosystems built on resilient architectures and intelligent devices. She talked about how modern robotics is increasingly shaped by advances in sensing, actuation, and edge‑level control that allow machines to interact safely and effectively with the physical world. Physically intelligent robotic systems — guided by real‑time feedback, robust connectivity, and adaptive mechanics — can help transform industrial operations with greater precision and resilience, she said.
In this video, EE Times' Nitin Dahad asked her about the trends and challenges in enabling software defined architectures for factory automation. She talks about the differences in enabling legacy systems vs greenfield environments. She also highlights the importance of things like TSN on IT/OT convergence, on power challenges in industrial systems and more.
And in her observations on the trends for AI driving everything, she also throws caution saying, "AI isn't the answer to all our problems. We also need domain expertise to understand that the AI is correct."
