At the NXP Tech Days 2025 in Detroit, Michigan, EE Times’ Editor-in-Chief Nitin Dahad caught up with Maite Bezerra, Senior Automotive Analyst at Omdia, to talk about some of the observations and thoughts after attending the event and listening to MXP, talking to car OEMs, and Tier 1s, and the automotive ecosystem. With over a thousand people attending the two-day event, they discuss what was presented, what they heard, and some of the challenges for automakers in achieving the software-defined vehicle (SDV) concept. In particular, they highlight how chip and software vendors are pushing the boundaries of technology, but how carmakers need to balance that with a slower, cautious approach to development. They discuss how different regions are adopting SDV technologies and frameworks, and they highlight the need for co-development of hardware and software, and what kind of avenues OEMs need to take to get that balance. Maite Bezerra highlights the fact that vendor and the supply chain have got the technology ready, and that now is the time for OEMs to figure out how to move faster in deploying the technology.
