In this video interview recorded at the annual Techritory Forum in Riga, Latvia, this month, EE Times’ editor-in-chief Nitin Dahad spoke to the former Deputy Prime Minister of Latvia and also former Defense Minister of Latvia, Artis Pabriks, on his new role as CEO of a new organization called Association for Military Technology, Drones, and Robotics, or MilTech. He talks about the role of the organization in representing startups and companies developing air, sea and land drones, ammunition drones, robotics, and other military technologies. He highlights how the technologies for these applications have developed rapidly in Latvia since the start of war in Ukraine, and how this knowhow is useful to others around the world. For example, Latvia had quickly established a few years ago the first 5G military test ground for military communications with national telecoms operator LMT. In addition Pabriks talks about the challenges for Latvian companies selling miltary technologies, since it’s not just about the technology, it’s about understanding regulated defense markets, bureaucracy, and rules of engagement.
