Macronix founder and CEO Miin Wu takes time at CES 2026 to meet with Aalyia Shaukat, editor-in-chief at EDN magazine, to talk about Macronix’s lineup of non-volatile memory (NVM) solutions, including eMMC flash memory and its lasting applicability across markets.

Miin and Aalyia discuss how eMMC has survived for decades, how Macronix came to be the industry’s primary supplier of this type of flash memory, and where eMMC fits into Macronix’s engineering priorities. Miin also shares a little about Macronix’s product roadmap and the challenges and opportunities the company faces in developing new devices Miin cites as a challenge complementing Macronix’s decades of expertise in device engineering with a growing emphasis on systems-level engineering. Toward that goal, the company has partnered with a global industry leader to absorb and incorporate systems-centric expertise into Macronix product development. Additionally, Miin offers advice for young engineers, encouraging them to think well into the future and identify applications that will create the greatest demand for qualified engineers. He goes on to share his vision for Macronix decades in the future, seeing the company continuing to be in lock-step with and meeting its customers’ memory requirements, while placing more increasing emphasis on systems-level solutions.

Finally, Miin puts artificial intelligence in perspective: 1) Macronix has for decades been employing it in R&D and manufacturing, before AI was “a thing” and 2) the company’s high-performance flash memories already serve as the data-storage core of countless systems presently enabling AI.
