"The Grind Date" is the seventh album by the American hip hop group De La Soul, released on October 5, 2004. Originally, it was meant to be part of the Art Official Intelligence (AOI) trilogy, but the group changed course, deciding to make it a standalone album instead of the final AOI installment. The album features only four guest MCs, including Common, and breaks from tradition by not including any skits. Instead, it starts with a short musical prelude before the first song "The Future." The album's cover and sleeve booklet, designed by Morning Breath Inc., are based on a 2005 calendar.

De La Soul is a hip hop group from Amityville, New York, formed in 1988. Their unique style includes diverse sampling, quirky lyrics, and they've helped shape jazz rap and alternative hip hop. The group, consisting of Kelvin "Posdnuos" Mercer, David "Trugoy the Dove" Jolicoeur, and Vincent "Maseo" Mason, started in high school. They grabbed producer Prince Paul's attention with a demo tape featuring the song "Plug Tunin'".
