Stillmatic is the fifth album by American rapper Nas. It came out on December 18, 2001, under Ill Will and Columbia Records. Unlike his earlier albums that focused on gangsta rap, this one talks about social and philosophical issues, similar to his debut album Illmatic from 1994. Nas talks about life in the ghetto, American politics, and his feud with rapper Jay-Z in his lyrics. Stillmatic was a hit both commercially and with critics. It helped Nas get back on track after his previous album, Nastradamus, didn't do well. It debuted at number 8 on the US Billboard 200 chart, selling over 342,600 copies in its first week and over 2,026,000 copies overall in the United States. It's been certified Platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America.

Nas, born Nasir bin Olu Dara Jones on September 14, 1973, is a renowned American rapper. His style is rooted in East Coast hip hop, and he's widely regarded as one of the greatest rappers of all time. His father, Olu Dara, was a jazz musician. Nas began his music career in 1989 as "Nasty Nas," recording demos under the mentorship of fellow East Coast rapper Large Professor. He made his debut guest appearance on Main Source's track "Live at the Barbeque" in 1991. Nas's first album, Illmatic (1994), received immense acclaim and is considered a hip hop classic, even being added to the Library of Congress's National Recording Registry in 2020. His second album, It Was Written (1996), debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 and catapulted him to mainstream success, fueled by the hit single "If I Ruled the World (Imagine That)" featuring Lauryn Hill.
