First proper project of 2026.

It is time to start outfitting my garage (not the workshop) and prepare it to be used for more wood working projects. And high on that list is to move the drill press over, since the drill press is currently doing nothing but taking up space in my correct workshop. Before I take it though I want to fix my biggest annoyance with it, and that is the method of clamping down work.

I don't particularly like the approach of using slots and bolts to move the vise around. It is not particularly ergonomic and is clunky to set up. I have had my eye on a float lock vise for a while, because setting up and freedom of movement is improved, but I do not particularly like the screw and handle for moving the jaw in and out.

I'd much rather use an existing vise where I can easily grab the handle and move the jaws in and out. So, here is my take on the design.
