(KUTV) A legendary high school band director is hanging up the baton after three decades at a Utah County school.

It was 1986 when John Miller, now 64, took over as American Fork High School band director and turned it into a championship machine.

"To be a part of this band is huge," said student Michael Hafen.

Miller has been at the helm for 30 years.

"It's something I never expected to do in my life," he said.

Now after three decades as a Caveman, the school's mascot, he's hanging up the baton on graduation day.
