This air raid shelter under St Nicholas Market in Bristol is a rarely seen Second World War bunker hidden beneath the Corn Exchange in the city centre.
It was built in the late 1930s and 1940s to protect traders, council staff and members of the public during the Bristol Blitz, when bombing devastated much of the old town.
The shelter consists of several rooms, including communal areas and toilets, and much of the wartime signage, fittings and even drawings from people who sheltered there can still be seen. Rumour has it, it’s even home to a ghost.
